Farmer-Florist:
Someone who grows their own flowers and uses those blooms to create floral arrangements. They emphasize what’s in season, sustainability and freshness which allows for a personal, farm-to-vase touch.
The environmental impact of the floral industry as a whole is not so rosy. From emissions that stem from the refrigeration and transportation of flowers (often shipped thousands of miles from other countries), to the resource intensive growing conditions and pesticide use of large scale farms.
Sustainable floriculture is so important - now more than ever.
Golden Hour Flowers pledges to always grow and design sustainably wherever possible
-by never using pesticides or other environmentally destructive chemicals
-through investing in perennials to reduce water demands
-by using rain barrels to reduce run-off into Canandaigua Lake
-by committing to foam-free floral designs
-by working toward our goal of buying a hybrid or fully electric flower van for deliveries
-and committing to a lifetime of learning how to do better.
